Getting started

It starts with one phone call.

There is no application to fill in before you can talk to us, and no need to work out which service you need first. Tell us what you are trying to do, and we will take it from there.

How it works

Four steps, and you set the direction in all of them.

01

Get in touch

Call or email the office and we will arrange a first appointment. You do not need a referral, a diagnosis letter, or any paperwork to make this call.

02

Set your own goals

This is the part people are least expecting. We do not arrive with a plan for you. You decide what you want to be able to do, and that becomes the work.

03

Build a plan together

You and an ABLE Center staff member work out the practical route to those goals — which services help, what order things happen in, and who does what.

04

Get on with your life

The point of all of it is independence: more of your life run the way you want it run, with less standing in the way.

Before you call

A few things worth knowing.

You do not have to know what you need. Most people call about one thing and find there are three others that would help. Working that out is part of the job.
Services are directed by you. Consumer control is not a slogan — it is the legal foundation of a Center for Independent Living. Nobody here decides your goals for you.

If you are not sure you qualify, ask anyway. We serve people of all ages and all disability types across seventeen counties. A short conversation settles it faster than guessing. If you would rather read first, what counts as a disability is broader than most people assume.

If we are not the right people, we will say so — and point you at who is. That is what information and referral is for.

Step one

Call, email, or send a message.

Office hours are the best time to reach someone by phone. A message sent any time will be picked up.
